7 Tips for your wedding.

Tip #1: White Ceiling for Mandap and day events.

Have the Mandap ceiling planned as a white sheer cloth. There is nothing better to yield soft, beautiful, natural lit photos as a white mandap top. Its lovely for day time weddings, and its very useful for evening wedding as well when photographers and filmers want to bounce light from the ceiling and soften it. Show below is an example of defused day light, with a white cloth/scrim above.

Tip #2: Cordon Area for bags.

So if you’re considering wedding photography and filming for your wedding, Then please bear in mind that the crew of 5-8 shooters might bring twice as many bags with them. And unless you / wedding planner plan for these, they will stick out like sore thumbs. Please plan for this necessary evil, so that they do not come in the way or become an eye sore in your beautifully planned decro set-up. A C shaped cordon or some dedicated and covered long tables could do the trick.

Tip #3: Ample time for Portraits.

Contemporary wedding photography includes everything from  candid photography to wedding details and portraits. If you are keen on getting some portraits done for yourself which are not run-of-the-mill then you have to allow ample time for photos. The photographer needs time to read the location, lighting, your mood and how comfortable you are with the directions. Once the basics are covered and a first decent shot is arrived at, is when there is room to improvise and add layers of creativity to it. The shot below took many takes and almost an hour of time and lots of patience, but the couple were dedicated to the process and we achieved this. If you can give just 5-10 minutes to your photographer before / after your events, then only expect basic portraits. Remember creative portraits is a process and takes its due time to perfect the shot.

Tip #4: Clear, airy, well-lit room for getting ready.

If you plan to take photos of yourself getting ready and your wedding details like jewellery, then please make sure your room is uncluttered, and does not have too many people getting ready in it. This will give you photographer ample space to play with, and you can enjoy the tranquility of the morning / evening before you walk the aisle 🙂

Tip #5: Accommodation near the venue.

If its a city wedding, let’s say in Bangalore, then commuting to the venue is easily managed with our own vehicles or cabs. But if the venue is outside of Bangalore (outskirts which take 1.5hrs one way) , or if its a destination wedding in Goa or Jaipur, then its BEST if you have the photography and filming team staying at or next to the venue. This saves precious hours in getting to the venue. Imagine the Sangeet went on late and finished at midnight (sometimes they go on till 2am/3am) , and the morning Puja is at 8.30. Now this means that if the Photography team stayed at the venue, they can perhaps have 6 hours of sleep and be fresh and ready in the morning for the Puja, including time for their battery charging and data copying. However if this was a far off location with 1 hr each way, then you have people with 3-4 hours of sleep working for you. And this is unlikely to result in a very good creative output. This is the reason why we request all clients to have us accommodated at the venue. The other reason is that sometimes there is an unscheduled event like a small Puja which takes place unannounced and we’ve been called by the family, only to realise that we are one hour away during our break and can’t rush back to the venue.

Tip #6: Get your toe-rings measured.

If you think you will have a ceremony where toe rings for the bride will be put on at some point during the wedding, then perhaps its a good idea to share the toe ring sizes early on or get the toe rings which expand easily. This will save you the embarrassing minutes as your future husband or relatives tying to force on an ill fitted toe-ring on you.

Tip #7: Plan the Family Portrait First.

The one grouse which is common to many a weddings is that family could not assemble together at any point during the events in totality and therefore there is no complete group photo. This is heartbreaking, because moments like these when you can get the entire family (& extended) together is so rare these days. At many weddings the uncle or the brother is constantly running for errands and don’t appear for the group photo. So please plan for the family portraits in your schedule. Underline it. Share it with everyone. Including me 🙂
